Advantages

Our borrowers are critical to our mission of ending poverty through investment. They are our partners in building communities.

Our borrowers benefit from several advantages that our loans and our lending process provide:

  • Flexible use of proceeds. Loan proceeds can typically be used to finance a loan portfolio or as pre-development capital for an affordable housing project. We do not have geographic, program or sector requirements for the use of our capital.
  • Flexible collateral requirements. Our thorough due diligence process generally enables us to offer loans based on organizational strength and operating history. Our borrowers have a general recourse obligation to the Calvert Foundation, meaning the full faith and credit of their organization stands behind their loan. With this assurance, we are often able to support growing  organizations without requiring a pledge of assets as collateral.
  • Industry-leading reputation. Inclusion in our portfolio reflects that you have undergone rigorous due diligence and have met our high standards for credit quality, thus enhancing your public image as a responsible and effective organization.
  • Long-standing relationship. After our initial investment we may increase our loan exposure with partners, considering them for larger loans on an annual basis without having to wait until loan maturity. We have successfully built long-term relationships with our borrowers: 76% of them have been with us for over three years.
  • Below-market interest rates.  Our interest rates vary by organization and sector, but are consistently below market.
