Since 1995, Calvert Foundation has been putting investment capital to work alleviating poverty.
The Calvert Group, Ltd., a separate, for-profit investment firm and sponsor of the Calvert Family of Funds, is a pioneer and long-time leader in the field of socially responsible investing. In 1990, the shareholders of Calvert's Social Investment Fund voted to place up to one percent of the mutual fund's assets in below-market investments for local nonprofit financial intermediaries supporting microcredit, low-income housing, small business and other community development initiatives. Today, this community investment component has been introduced into five Calvert mutual fund portfolios.
Based on the success of this experience, Calvert Foundation was launched in 1995 as a separate 501(c)(3) organization with the support of the Ford, MacArthur and Mott Foundations. To popularize community investment as a new asset class, Calvert Foundation launched the Calvert Community Investment (CCI) Note. The CCI Note, our flagship product, provides a safe and convenient way produce to create positive social change through investment.
Another innovative product Calvert Foundation has created to maximize the flow of capital toward underserved communities is the Calvert Giving Fund, the 100% socially responsible donor advised fund.
